Ferris questions returned CAP money
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture, Martin Ferris TD, has called on Minister Mary Coughlan to explain why her Department has had to return a portion of the funds received under the Common Agricultural Policy. Deputy Ferris is requesting details of how the money was misallocated and under which schemes.
Deputy Ferris said, "Although the money involved is relatively small in proportion to the overall funding received from the EU, it is important that we are told exactly how and why the monies concerned were apparently misallocated. Despite the pledge that the Single Farm Payment would remove much of the red tape surrounding direct payments, farmers are still experiencing difficulties and many will be extremely interested in discovering how certain funds were mismanaged. It is crucial, therefore, that the Department makes public exactly what has taken place." ENDS
