Double Standard Over Inquiry
Sinn Féin representative for North Belfast Gerry Kelly has contrasted the speed in which the Hutton inquiry into the death of Dr. Kelly was established and the treatment of the Finucane family.
Mr Kelly said:
"In the immediate aftermath of the death of arms expert Dr. David Kelly, Tony Blair moved to establish a judicial inquiry. Contrast this with the treatment of the family of murdered solicitor Pat Finucane. Fourteen years after his murder through collusion the Finucane family are still battling to see an independent judicial inquiry established.
"This is a question of political will and double standards. The failure to establish an inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane is a symptom of the British establishments attitude to Ireland. It seems that this British government is intent on attempting to cover up the legacy of it predecessors policy of state sanctioned murder." ENDS
