Morgan welcomes British decision to return land to Crossmaglen residents after 30 years

28 July, 2006

Sinn Féin TD for Louth Arthur Morgan has welcomed the decision by the British to return land to Crossmaglen residents which was first stolen from them over thirty years ago by the British Army. He said the land should be returned to its rightful owners as quickly as possible.

Deputy Morgan said:

"I want to welcome the decision by the British to return land to Crossmaglen residents which was first stolen from them over thirty years ago by the British army.

"There was deep anger throughout the area at the shabby attempt by the PSNI and the Policing Board to steal this land, just as local residents believed that their nightmare was coming to an end.

"It is important that the return of this land is done as quickly as possible so that people can get on with their lives. There is also one outstanding issue to be resolved in relation to land owned by the bakery which the PSNI are still attempting to rob and Sinn Féin will continue to work with the land owners on this matter.

"I have been in touch with both the Taoiseach and the British Prime Minister about this matter and raised it in the Dáil. I will continue to monitor the situation until this issue is fully resolved." ENDS
