Meeting with DETI on Strabane economic situation most positive engagement to date-MC Nulty
Sinn Féin Cllr Jarlath Mc Nulty described today's meeting between a delegation from Strabane Employment Task Force and Mr Stephen Quinn, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Enterprise Trade & Investment as the most positive and productive engagement to date in the ongoing battle by the local campaign group to secure measures and initiatives to redress the bleak economic situation in the District.
Cllr Mc Nulty, who is Chair of the Employment Task Force said,
"Part of the Employment Task Force delegation remained outside of today's meeting at Neitherleigh House to protest at the historic indifference of the Direct Rule Administration to the economic plight of the District particularly in light of continued crippling job losses and the loss of the mainstays of the local economy.
"However, unlike other previous meetings with Direct Rule Ministers, whereby we received little but bland platitudes and lame excuses, today's meeting with the Permanent Secretary was extremely focused on how to progress the urgent needs of the District.
"Prior to the meeting the Task Force had identified a specific range of measures which we believe to be key to regenerating the local economy and today we worked through them one by one with the Permanent Secretary and his officials.
"The Permanent Secretary gave a commitment that his Department officials will work increasingly in conjunction with the Task Force to improve the economic situation of Strabane District Council area.
"The Employment Task Force will be following up today's positive and productive meeting with similar meetings between all relevant Departments and officials north and south so that the necessary economic measures and initiatives are delivered to turn the local economy around." ENDS
