Gerry Adams calls for amendment to UN Draft Resolution on Lebanon
Speaking today after attending a rally for peace in the Middle East at Belfast City Hall organised by Trócaire, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP backed the call from the Arab states for substantial amendment to the UN Security Council draft resolution.
Mr. Adams was accompanied by MEP Bairbre de Brún, Sinn Féin Assembly members and Belfast City Councillors.
Sinn Féin representatives will also attend the rally at the Israeli Embassy in Dublin this evening at 6pm.
Mr Adams said:
"It is essential that any Security Council Resolution relating to the current situation in the Middle East include an immediate ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli troops.
"The current proposal from the American and French members of the Security Council fails to guarantee Lebanese security or freedom from Israeli occupation." ENDS
