Public Transport links are essential - Crowe

9 August, 2006

Speaking this morning Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe urged the government to ensure that 'landowners' involved in the new development of a 170 hectare new town in Balgaddy and Clonburris will part fund the provision of transport links as part of the new development.

The Dublin South West TD said, "Many land speculators have played an integral part in inflating house prices. It is not uncommon for developers-speculators to purchase and hoard land, releasing it slowly and exercising control over the price of land and subsequently housing. These individuals have reaped massive profits while redistributing nothing back to the new communities that have sprung up from such developments.

"It is time that property speculators put something back into communities. Mistakes of the past must not be replicated, where ghettos were created by constructing housing while failing to provide the necessary infrastructure.

"In any new development, public transport links are essential. This has been included in the Adamstown development with the inclusion of Quality Bus Corridors, Park and Ride facilities and Railway station platforms.

"I publicly call on South Dublin County Council and Councillors to ensure that public transport links, local amenities and education facilities are included in the new development in Balgady and Clonburris." Críoch
