Decision to make Postal Vote forms available on-line welcomed
Sinn Féin Six County Director of elections Cllr. Sean Begley today welcomed an assurance received from the Electoral Commission that postal voting application forms are to be made available on line. This move was suggested by Sinn Féin ads one way of overcoming problems with supply of postal vote application forms which arises in the run up to every election.
Cllr. Begley said:
"In past election campaigns Sinn Féin and indeed other parties have experienced major difficulties in obtaining the necessary number of postal vote application forms from the individual electoral offices. I have now received communication from the Chief Electoral Officer indicating that forms will be made available on the Electoral Office web site in early October. We very much welcome this decision and it should greatly improve the distribution of these forms.
"It is important for maximum participation in the democratic process to be sought. In the past too many obstacles have been placed in the way of people exercising their right to vote. Sinn Féin will continue to work with the electoral authorities to ensure that the remaining obstacles are removed and a fair and level electoral playing field is created." ENDS
