Praise for workers and union after Prudential announcement
South Belfast Sinn Féin Assembly member Alex Maskey has praised those involved in securing the 450 jobs at the Prudential Call Centre in Belfast. Mr Maskey's remarks come after the Prudential announced that the centre had been sold to another operator, Capita and the 450 jobs secured.
Mr Maskey said:
"There was much pessimism in the air when it was announced that Prudential were set to close the centre with the loss of 450 jobs. However the workers refused to give up and through their Union Amicus mounted an effective and persistent campaign to save the jobs on the Belfast site.
"Given today's announcement both the workers and the Trade Union deserve much credit and praise for the approach they adopted.
"It is my hope that the centre can now move on a flourish under the new owners." ENDS
