Sinn Féin to launch state-wide voter registration drive
On Thursday, 31st of August at 11am in Buswells Hotel Dublin, Sinn Féin will hold a press conference to launch a state-wide voter registration campaign.
Sinn Féin National Chairperson Mary Lou McDonald MEP, who is contesting the next General Election in Dublin Central, will be joined by Cllr John Dwyer, the party's candidate in Wexford and Cllr Pearse Doherty, the party's candidate in Donegal South-West.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Ms McDonald said: "Our campaign follows the announcement of a welcome overhaul of the electoral register. However, with each local authority overhauling the register to its own system, and the Department recommending only two visits to every household, we are concerned that eligible voters, in particular young people and low-income families, may be left off the register.
"Party activists have already begun intensive local canvasses in some areas in an effort to make sure people are registered to vote, but on Thursday we will be launching a registration leaflet with an initial print run of 60,000 for distribution across the state."
