Welcome for Crumlin Road Court House development

12 September, 2006

North Belfast Sinn Féin Councillor Carál NíChulín has welcomed the announcement that plans to develop the former Crumlin Road Courthouse are to finally proceed.

Cllr. NíChu;ín said:

"Since the closure of the Crumlin Road Courthouse there have been a number of false dawns in terms of the site being developed. I welcome the fact that we now seem to have advanced significantly and that work will finally begin.

"I think it is important that both the old court room itself and the tunnel under the Crumlin Road over to the old prison are maintained as part of the development for historical reasons.

"The major benefit for the local community will of course be the employment opportunities generated in what is an area of high unemployment and deprivation." ENDS
