All Ireland Child protection conference important step in right direction
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has today paid tribute to the two governments and voluntary agencies including the ISPCC, NSPCC and Barnardos for bringing together an all-Ireland Roundtable discussion on Child Protection in Dundalk today (Monday 18th September).
Speaking today Ms de Brún said:
"I want to thank all of those who have taken the time to organize today‚s all Ireland conference regarding child protection. Sinn Féin has been active on this issue for a long time and I want to express my personal satisfaction that this conference has come together.
"Speakers at today‚s conference are involved in the practical day to day work regarding issues of child protection, and many of them also spoke of the challenges posed by different procedures, legislation and policy on either side of the border.
"Proposals coming from working groups at the conference include the need for an ongoing forum to carry forward this work.
"What is particularly heartening is the level of interest in thinking and planning on an all Ireland basis to ensure the protection of children in a consistent manner across Ireland.
"Many practical issues remain to be addressed. I look forward to continuing involvement in this debate and pledge to help in whatever way I can." ENDS
