The developer's Government to stagger on as PDs issue blank cheque - Ó Caoláin

4 October, 2006

Sinn Féin’s Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has accused the PDs of issuing the Government a ‘blank cheque’ to allow ‘the developer’s Government’ to continue.’ He said ‘The Irish people will soon have an opportunity to sit in judgement over this Government. And I believe their long overdue judgement will be harsh.’

The Cavan-Monaghan TD said: “After all the hullabaloo of recent days the reality is that this morning we are faced with the continuation of this developer’s Government, run for the benefit of property interests.

“Last night, the Progressive Democrats issued what amounts to a blank cheque to the Fianna Fáil party. They are willing to ignore what the Taoiseach did so they can pursue their right-wing agenda of bigger prisons and fewer hospitals.

“The Irish people will soon have an opportunity to sit in judgement over this Government. They will examine not just the behaviour of the Taoiseach and the indifference to standards in public office displayed by the PDs. They will also see a Government whose legacy is of inequality, of 44,000 families on housing waiting lists, of closed hospitals and the havoc of the drugs trade. And I believe their long overdue judgement will be harsh.”
