Ó Snodaigh expresses support for funding call of Disability Federation
Sinn Féin Human Rights spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has supported the call by The Disability Federation of Ireland for €500 million funding for the sector in the next budget.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "I would like to support the call by The Disability Federation of Ireland for €500 million funding for the sector in the next budget. This is in line with the Government's commitments in the partnership agreement.
"People with disabilities have a right to live as equal citizens, free of discrimination and disadvantage, and the state has a duty to ensure this. We should not have to wait until 2016 to see the commitments of Towards 2016 come to fruition.
"Ultimately, Sinn Féin remains of the view that rights based legislation for people with disabilities must underpin progress into the future. The current Government refused to introduce rights based legislation. In fact Fianna Fáil and the PDs sold out the sector when they produced the fundamentally flawed Disability Act 2005." ENDS
