Ó Snodaigh congratulates Dublin Fire Brigade for heroic actions
Sinn Féin Justice spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has congratulated and commended the Dublin Fire Brigade for their heroic actions last night after they prevented a major tragedy by saving up to seventy people from a burning hostel in the north inner city.
Speaking in the Dáil today he said, "I want to congratulate and commend the Dublin Fire Brigade for their heroic actions last night through which they prevented a major tragedy by saving up to 70 occupants of a burning hostel in the north inner city.
He added, "There is an urgent need for the government to provide extra ambulances to meet the demands of a growing population in Dublin and they must carry out a fire risk assessment for Dublin in line with their legislative obligations. Particular attention must be given to private rented hostels. And I want to take this opportunity to call on everyone to co-operate fully with the fire brigade especially at this time of year Halloween.
"The decision to accommodate the seventy people saved from the hostel last night in Mountjoy Prison must be condemned. Crisis accommodation is the responsibility of the local authority. B&Bs and hotels should have been provided and if these were not available at the very least a community centre should have been used. Prison is absolutely not the place for victims of fires." ENDS
