Sinn Féin meet Ulster Farmers Unions to discuss issues in North Antrim
A Sinn Féin delegation which included North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan and senior party official Martina Anderson met with the local Ulster Farmers Union in Ballymena to discuss local agricultural issues in Ballymena and North Antrim.
Mr McGuigan said:
"This was a very important meeting and a lot of issues that directly affect our community were discussed.
"We in Sinn Féin continue to hold the same view and support the UFU in their campaign to challenge the unacceptable amounts of bureaucracy which are being imposed on farming communities by the Departments of Environment and Agriculture.
"The Agricultural industry in North Antrim is vital to many people's lives and the amount of red tape being imposed by these bodies is crippling the local farmers work.
"Various issues such as the Farm Nutrient Management scheme and the use of agricultural diesel were also discussed and these will be issues I will be bringing to the Direct Rule Minister.
"It was a shared view that a local accountable minister from a functioning assembly is vitally important to ensure that these along with many issues are given the importance they require." ENDS
