Gildernew praises Rural Tourism Award Winners
Sinn Féin Agriculture Spokesperson, Fermanagh South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew attended the Rural Tourism Awards last night in the Manor House Hotel in Fermanagh.
Speaking after the event Ms Gildernew said:
"The winners last night were the best within their catagory, but all those shortlisted were winners in their own right.
"The event organised by DARD, very well highlighted the best that Rural Tourism has to offer and the PEACE II programme which provided the bulk of the money needs praise for the successful attempt to put in place Rural Tourism infrastructure in disadvantaged Rural Communities.
"The Five Tourism Partnerships Fermanagh, Sperrins, Causeway Coast, Mournes and South Armagh put a huge amount of work into getting the programme delivered. The voluntary contribution of the directors on each of these boards cannot be under-estimated.
"Rural Tourism has a huge potential to be a corner-stone of Rural Regeneration which could bring in additional income to rural communities. Programme's like this should be looked at for their major benifits and implemented in the future Rural Development programme that DARD is to bring forward." ENDS
