Governments need to deliver on St. Andrews timetable

11 November, 2006

Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh Conor Murphy today demanded that the two governments act decisively and bring an end to the time wasting and delays which have dogged the process since St. Andrews.  He called on them to convene a meeting of the Programme for Government Committee.

Mr Murphy said:

"If the two governments intend to move forward then they need to act decisively and bring an end to the time wasting which has dogged the process since St. Andrews.

"They need to play their role.  If the governments are serious about fulfilling the timetable they have set themselves then they need call together a meeting of the Programme for Government Committee.  The real work needs to start.

"They need to make it crystal clear that the Assembly is going to be brought together on November 24th for the purpose of electing the First and Deputy First Ministers.  The St. Andrews document laid out a series of deadlines to
be met on the road to full restoration on March 26th and it is now time for the governments to start delivering on these." ENDS
