Sinn Féin's Christy Burke describes Dublin City estimates as best he has ever seen

26 November, 2006

Sinn Féin leader on Dublin City Council Councillor Christy Burke said 'w hile more could be done, we are heading in the right direction and this is the best book of estimates that I have seen in my time on Dublin City Council. However, Councillor Burke rejected the managerial signed order in relation to waste management charges.

He said, "This year's book of estimates provides €7million for waivers on waste management, €1.2million for the extension of library hours as part of the right to read campaign and significant increases in funding for road improvements, parks, childcare facilities and litter wardens among others.

"While more could be done, we are heading in the right direction and this is the best book of estimates that I have seen in my time on Dublin City Council.

"However, we in Sinn Féin reject the managerial signed order in relation to waste management fees which has been taken out of the hands of democratically elected Council representatives and given, by the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government Dick Roche, to the unelected City Manager."
