Positive signal on Autism Centre 'long overdue'
Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson, West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff has
welcomed
positive signals given by British direct rule Education Minster
Maria
Eagle on the Middletown Autism Centre and said that this facility
should
have been up and running long before now and offering support and
training
to people living with and working with autism from across the
island.
Mr
McElduff said:
"When this initiative was first brought on stream
by Martin McGuinness it
was hailed as ground breaking and everyone
living with and working with
autism could see the huge potential
benefits that the facility could bring.
"Unfortunately under
British direct rule the project has been caught up in
bureaucratic
wrangling. My late colleague Michael Ferguson refused to let
successive
direct rule ministers off the hook and now we are seeing positive
signals
that the waiting is over." ENDS
