3 Hour for a10 mile Bus Journey - Action Required

12 December, 2006

Dublin 15 Sinn Féin Councillor Felix Gallagher has called for urgent action to be taken to address the commuter nightmare experienced by local residents in his constituency last week. Cllr. Gallagher again called for a Quality Bus Corridor to be delivered and that access through the Phoenix Park be granted after it was confirmed that Dublin Bus journeys from Littlepace to Dublin city centre took more than three hours.

Cllr. Gallagher said "At a meeting today officials from Dublin Bus confirmed that the bus journey from Littlepace to the city breached the three-hour mark. This is scandalous and once again shows the need for a fully-functioning QBC and the opening of the Phoenix Park. It also shows the need for increased train services and a light rail service for Dublin West. A three hour journey is hardly a great advertisement for public transport. You could drive to Belfast in less than this time. Transport 21 has failed to address the major infrastructure deficit in Dublin 15. The mooted light rail system that was part of the Abbotstown plan needs to be provided, but it is not even on the agenda. CRÍOCH.
