Appointment of new Children's Commissioner

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Children and Young People, West Belfast MLA Sue Ramsey commenting on the appointment of SDLP MLA Patricia Lewsley as the new Commissioner for Children and Young People has said that Sinn Féin look forward to continuing their close relationship with the Commissioner's office and that the good work and clear focus of their work must continue.

Ms Ramsey also said that there is a responsibility on Ms Lewsley to demonstrate that all political ties have been cut and that there is no perception of political favouritism.

Ms Ramsey said:

"I want to be the first to wish Patricia well in this vitally important job. She is someone that has an established track record in championing children's issues.

"Sinn Féin look forward to continuing their close relationship with the Commissioner's office and offer Patricia every encouragement to build upon the good work and clear focus of the previous commissioner, Nigel Williams.

"There is also a clear responsibility on Patricia to demonstrate that political ties have been cut and that there is no perception of political favouritism." ENDS
