Minister fails to provide answers for Loughinisland families
Speaking after accompanying the families of those killed at Loughinisland to a
meeting with the British Security Minister Paul Goggins, Sinn Féin Assembly
member for South Down Caitriona Ruane said that the Minister 'provided few
answers for the families'.
Ms Ruane said:
"Today's
meeting was the latest in a series of engagements carried out by
the
Loughinisland families in their search for the truth.
"I have to
say that today's meeting while cordial and businesslike provided
few
answers for the families. The British Minister instead of providing
answers
which he undoubtedly could have, choose to hide behind the excuse of
PSNI
operational reasons when dealing with specific questions from the
relatives.
"These
families have heard all of these excuses before. They are determined
that
their search for the truth will not be derailed by elements within the
British
system who it has become increasingly clear were involved in both
the
original murders and the subsequent failed RUC and PSNI investigation."
