Morgan condemns Fáilte Ireland Lock-Out

15 January, 2007

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Worker's Rights Arthur Morgan TD today condemned the actions of Fáilte Ireland management who have locked workers out of their own offices on Pembroke Row in Dublin city.

Deputy Morgan said: "It is an absolute disgrace that in this day and age we are still facing situations where workers and trade union members are being locked out of their workplace. Workers are now picketing Fáilte's Baggot Street and Pembroke Row premises as a result of this aggressive action by management.

"Ever since Fáilte Ireland came into being, industrial relations at the national tourism body have enjoyed a very precarious existence. This dispute could have been avoided if Fáilte's management had taken part in meaningful engagement with SIPTU on the proposed relocation of certain departments. Sinn Féin fully supports the workers in their endeavours and would urge people to show their support to workers on the picket lines."
