Morgan supports Union calls for building sites to close

18 January, 2007

Following the serious injury of a construction worker on a north Dublin building site today, Sinn Féin Workers Rights spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has called on employers to shut down all sites in the country that are exposed to high winds.

The Louth TD said: "Today a construction worker has been seriously injured as a result of scaffolding falling because of high winds on a site in Finglas. The Building and Allied Trades Union have called on employers to shut down all exposed sites and Sinn Féin is supporting this call and urging employers to take heed.

"In the interest of worker's health and safety, it is absolutely imperative that sites at risk are shut and further injuries and possible fatalities are prevented. The high winds across the country are a temporary phenomenon, but workers on exposed sites are going to be at risk for the duration and we would ask employers not to put the lives of their workers at risk."
