National Development Plan spending in the north 'an historic milestone'

23 January, 2007

West Tyrone Sinn Fein MP Pat Doherty described the inclusion of the north in the southern governments National Development Plan as an 'historic milestone' as for the first time since the partition of this island, a Dublin government administration has being forced to include the six counties of the national territory in its National Development Plan 2007-13.

Mr Doherty said,

"In the 'amended' National Development Plan being published today, it is expected that some 1 Billion Euro is going to be earmarked for the development of a host of infrastructure, economic, education, health and other sector projects in the six counties and border counties.

"Sinn Féin has consistently argued, lobbied and campaigned on the need for the Dublin government to adopt an integrated All-Ireland approach to strategic development on this island and the NDP represents a truly significant and historic milestone as for the first time since the partition of this island, a Dublin government administration has been forced to include the six counties of the national territory in its National Development Plan 2007-13."
