McDowell promises more of the same 'inequality and failure'

18 February, 2007

Dublin Central candidate Mary Lou McDonald MEP speaking in Cabra this afternoon said ‘This weekend Michael McDowell promised the Irish people more of the same ‘inequality and failure’ that has marked the PDs time in government over the last decade.  She said ‘anybody trying to access the health service is only too well aware that the PDs ‘haven’t gone away you know’.  ‘She said ‘Sinn Féin in government would prioritise healthcare, housing and education.’

Ms. McDonald said:

“This weekend Michael McDowell promised the Irish people more of the same ‘inequality and failure’ that has marked the PDs time in government over the last decade. – they will continue to help the wealthiest in Irish society, they will continue to push ahead with a two tier health service, they will continue to abandon working class communities in Dublin city to criminal gangs and a growing drugs crisis.

“Last night Michael McDowell said ‘the PD’s haven’t gone away you know’.  Anybody trying to access the health system in this state is all too aware of the presence of the PDs.  Not that long ago Michael McDowell said that inequality was good for the economy.  The PDs failure to deliver shows how wrong that statement is.

“Sinn Féin in government will prioritise the delivery of a strong public health system, the delivery of social and affordable housing, greater investment in education and the delivery of preparations for Irish unity.”ENDS
