Throw out application for increased incineration capacity at Carronstown – Morgan
Sinn Féin Environment spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has called on An Bórd Pleanála to throw out an application from Indaver Ireland to extend the capacity of the Carronstown incinerator. Speaking today Deputy Morgan accused Indaver of reneging on undertakings given in the terms of its original planning approval.
He said, "At the time of the granting of the original planning permission for the Carronstown incinerator Indaver Ireland gave two undertakings. The first was that they would not seek to increase the capacity of the incinerator beyond its 150 tonne limit and the second was that the incinerator would only accept waste from the northeast of the state. Indaver have now arbitrarily reneged on both of those commitments as I predicted they would at the time of the original planning application.
"Having misled the public on two counts in the past and it is my belief that Indaver are now misleading the public on the extent of the emissions from the incinerator.
"I am calling on An Bord Pleanála to now throw out this application as there is no need for incineration. Irish recycling have rates increased significantly demonstrating that were infrastructure is in place Irish people will reduce reuse and recycle." ENDS
