Sinn Féin - On Your Side

Enthronement of CoI Primate

15 March, 2007

Sinn Féin MLA and Head of Unionist Outreach Martina Anderson accompanied by Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy will represent Sinn Féin at the Enthronement of The Most Reverend Alan Edwin Thomas Harper as the Church of Ireland's 104th Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland. The ceremony will take place in Armagh City on Friday.

Ms Anderson speaking today said:

"I see our attendance as an essential and important part of our engagement with the broad Unionist family. It also helps the process in which we can begin the task of building a new Ireland together, one which is based on our common humanity and an Ireland which respects the rights of all, simply in virtue of the fact that we are human beings.

"We want to establish trust, on the basis of tolerance and inclusively, and to eradicate sectarianism, racism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination and where cultural diversity is encouraged.

"Sinn Féin would like to wish the Revd Alan Harper all the best as he takes up his new office as the Church of Ireland's 104th Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland and look forward with working with him in the future." ENDS
