McLaughlin welcomes plans for dual carriageway

29 March, 2007

South Antrim MLA Mitchel McLaughlin has welcomed plans to extend the dual carriageway from the M22 at Randalstown to the Toome bypass.

Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"I welcome the preparation of an Environmental Statement on the effects of the T8/M22 Randalstown to Toome Dualling Scheme. I have long been an advocate of the upgrading of the road from Derry to Belfast to dual carriageway or motorway standards and I believe that it would be beneficial to business and residents in South Antrim. But I also realise that this could have implications for landowners and residents of the proposed route.

"I call on the Department to ensure maximum consultation with those who will be most affected by the proposal and disrupted by the ensuing works. I would also advise anyone who has concerns or opinions on the proposed route to ensure that they lodge them with the Department of Regional Development - Roads Service at Castlerock before the closing date of April 30th."
