Concern at Closure threat to Dunlarg Nursing Home
Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has said that he shares the great concerns of many that Dunlarg Nursing Home in Keady faces potential reduction of service provision and ultimately closure, after it was learnt that the home, which is owned by Southern Cross Healthcare, may be considering closing one of its wards.
Mr Boylan said:
"Unfortunately what many believe we are witnessing, particularly in the provision of Care Homes, is that decisions on what Services and Care is to be provided, are being taken by accountants and financial assessments.
"We are being told that people are living longer and what we need is more provision not less.
"Any decision to reduce facilities or services at Dunlarg will have a cruel and brutal impact on residents.
"Dunlarg is a purpose built care home that provides residential and nursing care for elderly and those suffering from dementia. It also provides a wide variety of daily therapeutic activities.
"These care homes cater for some of the most vulnerable in our society. This issue is about people, not about balancing books.
"I am angry that I have been waiting for nearly three weeks for a reply from the Dunlarg management to the request for a meeting to discuss the issue. There is a widespread concern and I would hope that rather than being seen to be dodging the issue, that we could meet to discuss all aspects and get some clarification on the matter." ENDS
