McGuinness confident about institutions
Sinn Féin nominee for the post of Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will this evening travel to Leitrim where he will be joined an event by Roscommon/ South Leitrim candidate Cllr. Martin Kenny and Sligo/North Leitrim candidate Cllr. Sean McManus. Speaking this afternoon Mr McGuinness said that he did not envisage anything that will stop the power sharing and all-Ireland institutions being put back in place on May 8th.
Mr McGuinness said:
"The leaders of Sinn Fein and the DUP have made very strong and resolute statements that the power sharing and all-Ireland institutions will be up and running on May 8.
"I don't envisage that there is anything out there that will stop that process.
"I am determined to have a good relationship with Mr Paisley. He and I will occupy very powerful positions on the Executive. It is my sense, from the lead-up to Monday and since Monday, that Mr Paisley wants the process to work just as I want it to work.
"Ian Paisley isn't going into government to walk out.
"Our job as mature and sensible politicians is to resolve any difficulties and the way we set about concluding last weekend's negotiations clearly shows it can be done." ENDS
