Roselawn Clinic Latest Exposure of Two Tier Health System
Dublin 15 Sinn Féin Councillor Felix Gallagher has slammed the discrimination of medical card patients at the Meridian Clinic in Roselawn. This is the latest exposure of the two-tier health system by the Dublin West General Election candidate.
Cllr Gallagher said "I have been contacted by a constituent who was a former private patient at the clinic. However having been made unemployed she became a medical card patient. When this happened she was no longer treated at the main clinic, but was told to go across to a separate building across the road. Her GP notes were transferred from her file to a file of a different colour. She was no longer able to give a blood sample at the clinic, instead she was sent to Connolly Hospital. These may seem like relatively minor changes but what they do is create a 'them and us' scenario. The file colour change is particularly infuriating, as it acts like a badge of humiliation.
"Under the GMS contract a GP is obliged to 'ensure that no discrimination or differentiation is exercised between the treatment of medical card and private patients' within the practice. This is obviously not the situation at the Meridian clinic. I have raised this issue with the Minister for Health who again has shirked responsibility and blamed the HSE. Sinn Féin in Government will bring an end to this medical apartheid. We will also ensure that a Health Minister is responsible for health matters, not unelected, unaccountable public servants." ENDS.
