Crowe pays tribute to Rovers fans on 20th Anniversary of last competitive game at Glenmalure Park

12 April, 2007

Speaking this morning, on the 20th anniversary of Shamrock Rovers' last competitive game in Glenmalure Park, Milltown, Tallaght-based Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe said, "Contrary to various reports, Sinn Féin is fully behind Shamrock Rovers' move to Tallaght and we wish to see this happen as soon as possible with the completion of the Tallaght Community Stadium that will serve the entire community".

The Dublin South-West TD said, "Although Shamrock Rovers remain homeless after 20 years, it is a tribute to the fans that they have kept the club alive. When the Kilcoyne family sold off the Glenmalure site two decades ago to property developers some felt it would signal the death knell for Rovers. Twenty years on however the club is thriving under ownership by the fans and is already a community asset for Tallaght. Through community initiatives and scholarship schemes Shamrock Rovers can be of great benefit to the community of Tallaght."
