No support from within republican community for Sion Mills bomb incidents

10 April, 2007

West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty says that those who left explosive devises in the vicinity of the home of a former DPP member in Sion Mills have absolutely no support from within the republican community for their reckless actions.

He said,

"If this attack was carried out by people purporting to be republicans opposed the Peace Process then, even by their own logic, what justification could they claim for subjecting this family and her neighbours to this ordeal given that the probable target of this reckless attack was a former and not a serving DPP member.

"Whatever the agenda of those behind these incidents is, it has clearly got nothing to do with advancing the path to Irish Unity.

The way to achieve a United Ireland is through peaceful and democratic activity. The Republican people in this area and indeed across the north sent out a very clear message to any groups still involved in such actions in the recent election.

"They need to end their futile campaigns and listen to what republican communities are saying to them. There is no justification for any activity of this sort." ENDS
