Sinn Féin to seek female vote in General Election

14 April, 2007

Sinn Féin candidate for Dublin Mid West Joanne Spain today said 'more than 60 women from across Ireland will join the campaign trail in Dublin Mid West and Dublin Central today (Saturday 14th).   Ms. Spain said  'We will be asking women voters to support Sinn Féin's strong equality agenda and to vote and transfer to Sinn Féin in the upcoming election.'

Ms. Spain said:

"Today more than 60 women from across Ireland will join myself and Mary
Lou McDonald on the campaign trail in Dublin Mid West and Dublin Central.
In the General Election 25% of Sinn Féin's candidates are women and we are
determined to return women TDs to the Dáil.  In the recent Assembly
elections Sinn Féin returned 8 women MLAs and we have appointed two women
Ministers - Caitríona Ruane as Education Minister and Michelle Gildernew
as Agriculture Minister.

"The key issues that we will be highlighting on the canvas are: equal pay,
affordable childcare and increased maternity leave, making advanced
screening services (ie, national breast and cervical cancer screening)
available locally, promptly and widely and the broader issues of
healthcare, education and affordable housing.

"We will be asking women voters to support Sinn Féin's strong equality
agenda and to vote and transfer to Sinn Féin in the upcoming election."
