McGuinness demands statement from UVF and PUP over threats
Sinn Féin MP for Mid-Ulster Martin McGuinness has called on the PUP and the UVF to make statements clarifying whether or not people are under threat from them. Mr McGuinness' call comes after a weekend when people in Derry City, South Derry and North Antrim have been visited by the PSNI and told that their details were on a list connected to the UVF.
Mr McGuinness said:
"Since Friday evening when the PSNI began visiting the homes of republicans and nationalists in Derry City, South Derry and North Antrim and throughout the weekend I have been approached by people fearful of their personal
safety. I have to say that many of these people have no connection whatever to Sinn Féin.
"It is completely unacceptable that people's personal details have turned up in UVF hands and that numerous people are now frightened and disturbed by these revelations.
"Given the fact that the UVF is the unionist paramilitary gang linked to these threats then it is now over to that organisation and the PUP to make urgent statements explaining this turn of events and making it clear what
threats exist or don't exist." ENDS
