Invest NI End of Year Statement

26 April, 2007

Sinn Féin Economy Spokesperson, South Antrim MLA Mitchel McLaughlin has said that the way forward for Invest NI is through greater partnership with the IDA. He also said that Invest NI must support investment in socio-economically deprived areas and indigenous business.

Mitchel McLaughlin said:

"Sinn Féin have been very critical of Invest NI's track record, with financial support not being targeted West of the Bann or towards Border areas. However, there finally appears to be a recognition by Invest NI of the requirement to support investment in socio-economically deprived areas and to support indigenous business.

"We still need to be convinced that the expected number of created jobs does in reality lead to real jobs and to look at the overall strategic objectives of Invest NI.

"I believe that we need to quickly move to a situation where both the economic agencies on this island, the IDA and Invest NI, work in partnership to ensure that economic growth is well planned and supported across Ireland." ENDS
