McDonald - Ruairí Quinn comments totally begrudging

28 April, 2007

Sinn Féin Chairperson Mary Lou McDonald MEP has described Ruairí Quinn’s comments about the Taoiseach’s invitation to address the British Parliament as totally begrudging.

Ms. McDonald said:

“Over the last decade the contribution of the leadership of the Labour Party to the Irish peace process has been totally begrudging and negative.  Even in the aftermath of the talks at St. Andrews when huge efforts were being made by Sinn Féin and the DUP to reach an agreement, not one Labour leader could find a positive word to say.

“The timing of the Taoiseach’s address to the British Parliament is not an issue, but I hope that as well as talking of the new relationship between our two islands he will talk about Irish re-unification and call on the British authorities to co-operate with the inquiry into the Dublin Monaghan bombings.”ENDS
