Sinn Féin back BMA concern over impact of PFI deals on Health Service

15 May, 2007

Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson, North Belfast MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has supported the BMA call for an end to PFI deals that damage the Health Service.

Ms Ní Chuilín said:

"This report from the Public Accounts Committee on PFI debt refinancing supports what Sinn Féin and others have been saying for some time, namely that PFI deals within the health service are not delivering and that it is increasing debt levels across the health service.

"I welcome the response from the BMA and particularly the clear concern about the impact that PFI is having on patient care.

"This British Labour government has slavishly allowed the development of the PFI and privatisation agenda without any real analysis of the real costs in terms of patient care. Health care is about much more than pounds and pence, it is about the ability of our health service to meet the needs of our society." ENDS
