Sinn Féin welcome departmental u-turn on Health Cuts
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson, North Belfast MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed the commitment made by new Health Minster Michael McGimpey not to implement planned 'efficiency savings' of £338 million that would have had a devastating impact on Health services.
Ms Ní Chuilín said:
"I welcome the immediate commitment from Michael McGimpsey to scrap the proposals to cut some £338 million from the Health Budget under the guise of so-called 'efficiency savings' over three years because they would have had a devastating impact on Health services.
"Our Health service is under funded and the last thing we need is further cuts that would have hit services that are essential particularly for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
"Through the Health committee we will be scrutinising the detail of what the Health Minster is now saying to ensure that he sticks by the commitments he has now given.
"Sinn Féin will especially want to ensure that any attack on core services such as Day Care Centres, Residential and Nursing Home Care and Domiciliary Care is resisted. These are services that enable people to live with dignity either at home or in a community setting or with a home that meets their needs." ENDS
