Fujitsu jobs could be the catalyst for further investment
Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said he hoped that the decision by Fujitsu to create 300 jobs in the Derry area would be the catalyst for further investment in the North West Region.
Mr McCartney said:
"Derry has a highly motivated available work force and with the completion of several modern state of the art office space is in a position to compete for major contracts.
"The decision by Fujitsu to locate in the Derry area is a result of the growing confidence in the area as a hub for specialist high-quality IT services roles.
"These new jobs will be a welcome boost to the local economy and in conjunction with further input from Invest Northern Ireland Derry can begin to reverse the years of underinvestment in the area.
"It is important that if we are to build on this announcement that a strategy is devised between all stakeholders including governments, local business, Invest Northern Ireland, private investors and Magee University that will allow for the North West Region to compete on a fair and equal basis with other areas for similar contracts."
