Local Support for Campervan Couple

13 June, 2007

Sinn Féin Newry and Mourne Councillor Packie McDonald has said that the communities in the south Armagh/Louth area, who initiated a collection in aid of the campervan couple who had been badly injured after a brutal attack, were not only responding in as practical way as possible, but were very publicly saying that what had happened the couple was despicable.

Cllr McDonald said:

"Our communities here on both sides of the border are very clearly showing their sincerest concern for the injured couple and also stating that their communities will not tolerate these type thuggish and brutal attacks.

"The local community safety groups, along with some business people and individuals from both sides of the border felt they had to do something practical and things have just moved on from there.

"I am sure nothing could erase the terrible experience that the couple have had, but I hope that in time they can be comforted by the fact that people from the locality where the incident had happened, cared about them and wished them well." ENDS
