Annoyance at loyalist flags in Finaghy

15 June, 2007

Balmoral Sinn Féín Representative Stiofan Long has expressed his annoyance after loyalist flags were erected in recent days at Finaghy cross roads.

Mr Long said:

"Finaghy is a mixed area and I have spoken to people from across the community who are angry at the erection of loyalist flags in the area in recent days. Leaders within the unionist and loyalist community need to act to ensure that flags are not erected in mixed areas were they clearly cause offence.

"In recent years tensions in this area have been largely diffused through community dialogue and engagement. It would be my hope that this once again can be the route used to resolve this problem. I have already been in touch with loyalist representatives in neighbouring areas and the matter has also been raised with the PSNI." ENDS
