Sinn Féin challenge Minister for Culture over plans to combat Lottery funding shortfall.
Sinn Féin Assembly Culture Committee member, Francie Brolly MLA, has asked the Culture Minister, Edwin Poots what plans his department have made to offset the potential adverse impact that the British plundering of Lottery funds may have on local Arts and Culture programmes and grassroots sporting activities which depend so heavily on the lottery for funding.
"The British Minister Tessa Jowell announced several months ago that she intended plundering the funds of the lottery because her department had massively underestimated the budget for the London Olympics.
"Sinn Féin want to ensure this oversight by the British Government will not have an adverse impact on local Arts and Culture programmes and grassroots sporting activities which depend on lottery assistance.
"The six counties benefits greatly from input from arts and leisure groups and this part of Ireland must not suffer due to the lack of forward thinking by Tessa Jowell et al." Ends/Deireadh
