Sinn Féin welcome GAA presentation to Assembly Culture Committee

21 June, 2007

Sinn Féin's Paul Maskey MLA has welcomed a GAA presentation to the Assembly Culture Committee and has urged the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure to encorporate the GAA's development plan in it's budget plans.

He said,
"I welcome the briefing from the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association to the Assembly Committe for Culture, Arts and Leisure by Mr Danny Murphy, Dr Eugene Young and Ms Aileen Tohill. As well as high calibre sporting everts, the GAA has benefitted greatly the social and health aspects of Irish life, throughout the whole of Ireland.

"Certain socio-economic problems can be offset by participation in the GAA and other sporting organisations, especially in areas of high deprivation. I urge the department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, Edwin Poots to encorporate the GAA's development plan into it's budget planning." Ends/deireadh
