Kelly condemns those responsible for North Belfast kidnap

21 June, 2007

Sinn Féin Assembly member for North Belfast Gerry Kelly has condemned those behind the tiger kidnapping of a bank official in the area yesterday. Mr Kelly praised the family involved for their bravery and said that everything
had to be done to apprehend those responsible.

Mr Kelly said:

"Yesterday a family in North Belfast was held hostage and ransom demands were made. Fortunately the family managed to escape without serious injury. It is unacceptable for a bank official and his family to be targeted in this way. It is important that those responsible are quickly caught.

"People within North Belfast will be angered at this turn of events. This is a well known and respected local family who are active within this community.

"I would once again praise the family involved for their bravery and offer them every support as they come to terms with this ordeal." ENDS
