Ó Snodaigh to question Assistant Garda Commissioner on measures to tackle Crumlin/Drimnagh feud

2 July, 2007

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD will this evening ask the Assistant Garda Commissioner to establish a special Garda Task Force to tackle the escalating feud between Crumlin and Drimnagh criminal gangs. The feud between these gangs resulted in a grenade attack on a house in Crumlin last week. Deputy Ó Snodaigh will put his proposals to tackle the feud to the Assistant Commissioner at the meeting of the Dublin Joint Policing Committee this evening.

Speaking before the meeting today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "For the past number of years I have been calling on the Government to establish a special Task Force to deal with this feud. The failure to act on my calls has led to an escalation of the feud with several shootings this year and just last week there was a grenade attack on a house in Crumlin. The grenade attack shows that these gangs have no regard for the safety of innocent bystanders as they escalate their tit-for-tat attacks.

"At this evening's meeting of the Dublin Joint Policing Committee I will have the opportunity to question the Assistant Garda Commissioner. I will ask him directly what measures he has taken to bring this feud to an end and I will call on him to establish a special task force with the specific aim of bringing this feud to an end." ENDS
