Construction industry accident rates must be addressed
Speaking today in the Assembly, Sinn Féin MLA Francie Brolly urged the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment to do his utmost to address accident rates in the construction industry.
"Last year there was a unacceptably high level of accidents in the construction industry, twenty of which were fatal. It has also been reported that construction workers in the six counties are three times more likely to be killed while at work as compared to areas in England, Scotland and Wales.
"My own family tragically suffered due to a fatal construction accident and I urge Minister Dodds to do all he can to tackle, address and be pro-active to stem accidents in the construction industry."
