Sinn Féin's spokesperson for children, Sue Ramsey MLA has said that the scandal of underspending for our children in the six counties is unsurprising and needs to be highlighted.

Speaking after the launch by Patricia Lewisley, the six county Commissioner for Children and Young People, of her recent report, Ms Ramsey said,

"After years of misrule/ direct rule the investment given to the people in society who needed it most was not enough. Spending per child in the six counties is considerably less than in Scotland and this must be addressed. The 1916 Irish proclamation aims to "cherish each child of the nation equally" and we in the Assembly must address the inadequacies in our provisions for children.

"Children are unquestionably the most vulnerable in Irish society. They deserve not only protection but equality. Sinn Féin has placed the demand for funding regarding children to the fore in it's approach to the Assembly."
