Invest NI to acquire more land for industrial use in Strabane.

3 July, 2007

West Tyrone Sinn Fein MP, Pat Doherty has welcomed the fact that Invest NI is now prioritizing the acquisition of additional land in Strabane District for industrial use.

The local MP said

"At present, there are only two acres of available land for industrial use within Strabane District which does not compare favourably with many other Districts in the six counties.

"In order to facilitate opportunities for inward investment and the expansion of existing business in the area it is crucial that additional land for industrial use becomes available.

"The availability of additional land for industrial use is crucial for the expansion of the economy in Strabane District and on foot of a written question I submitted to Economy Minister Nigel Dodd's on the issue, I have now been told that Strabane is one of four areas identified in the first phase of Invest NI's current acquisition policy.

"The Strabane acquisition project will move forward in due course following a full economic appraisal and in line with New West Tyrone Area Plan which is scheduled to be published in draft form next year. ENDS
